Social anxiety disorder (SAD) can wreak havoc on your personal life and in particular your career and day-to-day functioning in the workplace. cfalc, a member of the SAD forum has posted a query regarding handling meetings with authority figures -- in this particular instance with a work supervisor.
I have had social anxiety disorder all my life, and I am often miserable about it. Here is my current problem: I received an e-mail from my boss on Friday that she wanted to have a visit with me on Monday, specifally at 11:00 a.m. I have worried about what this meeting could be about to the point of imagining myself quitting just to avoid this meeting. Anyone out there as neurotic as I am about dealing with authority figures? I need to know I'm not alone in this and that I'm working myself up over nothing.
I would encourage others to post comments and suggestions about ways you have found to manage anxiety when meeting with authority figures. Please post your comments and suggestions in the SAD forum.
