Feeling Better Now

By January 25, 2008

Follow me on:

Feeling Better Now is a website advised by experts in the mental health care field including Sidney Kennedy, psychiatrist-in-chief at Toronto University's Health Network and Mark Pollack, director of the Anxiety Disorders Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. The site, launched in January 2006, has people fill out an online questionnaire that evaluates your risk of having various mental health disorders. The site generates a “care map” of the best treatment options and a “follow-up map” to track progress.

The tool is designed to provide doctors with information to make diagnosis of mental health disorders (including social anxiety disorder) more efficient. Unfortunately, a visit to the site reveals that in order to use the tool users must have already been assigned a “user id” by their doctor, organization, or company. Perhaps a better alternative would be to offer the general public access to the service and provide contact information for mental health care providers as part of the “care map”.
