First there were three, now there are four. Four medications approved by the U.S. FDA for treating social anxiety disorder (SAD). Previously only Paxil (paroxetine), Zoloft (sertraline), and Effexor (venlafaxine) had received the stamp of approval. The newcomer, Luvox CR, is the controlled release version of Luvox, manufactured by Jazz Pharmaceuticals.
There has been some recent controversy over the negative impact of drug manufacturers on the over-diagnosis of SAD. What do you think? Is the introduction of another FDA-approved medication for treating SAD a positive step, or a step in the wrong direction?
