Steve Light and Emma Connor are the co-founders of Shining a Light, an organization dedicated to helping those with social anxiety lead more fulfilling lives. Prior to the creation of Shining a Light, each had been running events through separate organizations called Freedom to Shine and Leading Light. Steve and Emma met in 2005 at a self-help group for social anxiety disorder.

On September 5th, 2009, Shining a Light is hosting a fundraiser in Manchester, UK to raise money and awareness for Anxiety UK. Those in attendance can look forward to learning more about social anxiety, as well as singing, dancing and even laughter therapy. The full-day event includes evening activities such as a fashion show, live entertainment and a charity auction.

This sounds like a great opportunity for those in the area to support a good cause while learning new skills to manage social anxiety. The UK has a supportive community for those with social anxiety disorder (SAD); this event is just one example of how those with the disorder as well as their loved ones can reach out and make a difference.
