The new A&E series "Breakout Kings" stars Brooke Nevin as Julianne Simms, a civilian information specialist with social anxiety disorder (SAD) who helps a task force catch fugitives. Nevin has starred in such shows as NCIS and Grey's Anatomy, and also currently plays a role on the dark comedy "Call me Fitz".
Nevin describes herself as non-anxious and admits that she had to do some research to prepare for the role. Talking to psychologists and watching the show "Obsessed" helped her to understand the mindset of those with anxiety disorders. On the show, Julianne's character is subtlely portrayed such that the audience is aware of her thought process.
Although a number of movies have featured characters with SAD, I believe this is the first television show. Hopefully it will bring more awareness and understanding for the disorder. What do you think? Will you watch the show?
