Definition: St. John’s Wort is an herbal medicine proven useful in treating mild-to-moderate depression. Studies have not yet shown St. John’s Wort to be helpful as a primary treatment for anxiety. The medicine carries with it several potential interactions with other medications as well as a number of side effects. Because the Food and Drug Administration does not regulate the production of herbs and supplements, there is no guarantee about the ingredients or safety of the product.
