Definition: Logical refutation is a technique used to dispel irrational beliefs. It involves asking a series of questions about the logic of one's thinking.
Examples:
If someone with social anxiety disorder (SAD) holds the belief that they do not deserve to have any close friends, logical refutation would involve asking questions such as "What makes you so undeserving?", "Why do others deserve friends and not you?", and "What would an outside observer say about this belief?". Through the process of asking questions, the irrational belief is gradually replaced with a more logical thought.
